今日は、風が激しく吹いて、前に進めない程。
一体何だろうと思っていたら、なんと、春一番だった。

英語で言うと、the first spring stormというところか。
stormなら、この激しい風も仕方なしと思える。

ちなみに、the first strong winds of the year (singnaling the arrival of spring)という訳も載っていましたが、これは今日の春一番には、不向きな気がしますね。
こんなのは、やっぱりwindじゃなくて、stormがいいわ。

thumb one's nose at〜

「〜を軽蔑・無視する、〜をあざける」の意味で、鼻先に親指をあて他の指を扇形に広げて振って人をばかにするしぐさからだそうです。
