文章中のまとまりごとに区切り記号を入れてみよう

高校生になると相当複雑な英文が出てきます。その時、意味のまとまりごとに区切り（／を鉛筆で書き込む）を入れて読んでいかないと、まず内容を読み取れません。
高校入試で準備をしておきましょう。少し複雑な文が出てきたときに、／で区切る癖をつけておくと、超強力な武器となります。

この例題ですと、One night last month there was a phone call while I was sleeping．が一番複雑な文かもしれません。『主語を見つけたらその前で区切る』、この例文だと、（中学生だと主語と思っていいでしょう）there was 〜を見つけたらその前に区切り／です。また『接続詞の前で普通は区切る』、例文だと接続詞while がありますから、その前に／です。
One night last month / there was a phone call / while I was sleeping．これで、先月のある夜／私が眠っている間に／電話があった（かかってきた）、と非常に訳しやすくなります。
