昨日は授業終了後、ジャズフェスで使うウォッシュボードを買いに行き、あれやこれやの後いったん帰宅。家で夕食を食べてから、再び出かけて歌の練習。歌えなければ、ジャズフェスも単なる法螺話で終わってしまうから、とにかく声を出さなきゃ！という感じ。
でも、暑い中を歩いて学校に行った後、歌の練習はかなり厳しい。もともと体力がないから、普通だったら学校に行くだけで疲れるのに、さらに歌を歌うのは、ほんとにしんどい。せっかく食事をしても、全部吐いてしまうくらい疲れる。これは体力作りからやらないとダメかも。今のままでは、真夏の練習に耐えられない！
そんな時に、新品の本が届いたりするのは、なんとも癒される。表紙を見ているだけで和む。今日アマゾンから届いたのは、『Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons』というタイトルに惹かれて買ってしまった本だが、Amazonのレビューでは酷評されている。
ベタ褒めされていると、そんな一般受けするようなのは読みたくないとなるし（自分も一般の部なのに）、酷評されていると、へぇ〜？と思い、どれどれ・・・となる天邪鬼だから、俄然読んでみたいと思うのだ。いいも悪いもなく、読んだそばから忘れていくようなのは読みたくないが、酷評されるくらいなら、何かしらあるってことでしょう。(^^;
アメリカ南部物と同様、どうしても抵抗できないのが、スモールタウン物だ。この本もミネソタのスモールタウンが舞台で、「フライド・グリーン・トマト」のファニー・フラッグみたいな作風なのかな？と思っているのだが、この手の本は一歩間違うと、「ちょっといい話」で泣いて下さいというのが見え見えの、偽善者めいたつまらない話に終わってしまうのが怖い。とりあえずは期待。
