My Favorite an Eccentric Jazz Bar #2

I'd like to introduce you to a small and old jazz bar in Japan which is my favorite.
The bar Sonoka, is in the basement of a tiny, rundown building. It's located in front of the huge train station, Meguro. Next door to the bar there is pachinko, which is a big and noisy Japanese upright pinball game house.
Sonoka isn't famous among the general public. Most jazz-lovers know the bar's name. This is because Sonoka is famous for being strict with customers, and because it gives us rare, high level, grooving live jazz music. During the performance, of course, audiences must not talk. At the jam session which is twice a week at Sonoka, if customers who are amateur musicians can't play well, the host band members will never call on them again that night. The members of the host band are employed professional jazz musicians.
However obstinate Sonoka is really loved by the regular customers. Inside Sonoka it is a very confined space, that's why when you are sitting at your table, and the saxophone player is close to your face, you feel you can indentify with the musicians. Regular customers love Sonoka so much that they are worried about Sonoka's well being whenever a typhoon comes. The next morning after a typhoon has gone, they go to Sonoka to check and see if it is safe or not. Sonoka is occasionally flooded by typhoons. When it is flooded, some regular customers will take a day off work to help with cleaning at Sonoka.
If you have an opportunity to visit Tokyo, Japan, I'd like to recommend Sonoka. If you are a jazz-lover or listener but not a musician, then I recommend seeing a performance. The jam sessions are on Wednesdays and Saturdays. So if you are a good amateur jazz musician, I highly recommend that you go on one of these nights.
Sonoka is definitely not a dangerous bar, and it is much more friendly than rumored.
