インターネットの記事によるとバグダッドに大規模な空爆
が行われているようだ。その一方でトルコがイラク北部に
軍を進めて、アメリカが困惑してるとか。

ぼくがこんな話をしても面白くないだろうか、身の回りの
話を。

戦争開始とともに大学で留学生の面倒を見るInternational
Student Affairsから以下のようなメイルが来た。

I am writing to convey my concerns during the war
with Iraq.　（中略）

Those living on campus should contact the University
Police (266-4986)if you feel threatened or insecure
or experience any unusual problems as a result of your
ethnicity. Those residing off-campus should contact
the Hattiesburg Police Department at 544-7900 for
non-emergencies or 911 for emergencies, be sure to
tell them that you are a student at USM.

珍しく素早い対応に感心したが、すでに用意されていたのかも
知れない。しかし不思議なことが。あとの部分でこんな部分が。

Remember, I am here to serve as your advisor. In
addition, feel free to visit the Counseling Center
located in Kenward-Washington Hall, room 200 to
receive professional counseling.

専門のカウンセラーに何を相談するんだろうか？身の振り方？
身の守り方？被害を受けた時の相談？それとも嫌がらせで
精神的に参った時の話だろうか？その前に保護が先なような
気がするけど、そこまではしてくれないようだ。
